Foul-mouthed trial lawyer and election loser Paul Hackett appeared on MSNBC's Hardball last night. And since no one watches MSNBC, State of the Union felt compelled to fill you in on something Hackett said.
David Gregory, who was filling in for Chris Matthews, is buying into the line that Hackett is the new savior of the Democratic Party. But when Gregory asked Hackett if he was the Dems "new star," Hackett revealed the truth:
"They're in trouble if I am."
There you have it. Hackett ran a good campaign and is well spoken (what else would you expect from a trial lawyer?). But he must surely realize that his "successful" loss had more to do with the odd timing of the special off-year election and a contentious GOP primary than anything the Dems were doing.
But, just when you think Hackett makes sense, he tells MSNBC that the United States and Iraq are not better off without Saddam Hussein in power!
"I don't necessarily believe the United States is better off today now that Saddam Hussein is gone...Saddam Hussein is an evil guy. And my question is, who appointed us to be the police force of the world?"
What?!?
Hussein's atrocities against his own people and his open willingness to defy UN sanctions and support terrorism are too numerous to discuss here. Wait until Saddam's trial begins and we'll see just how much better off the Iraqi people are without the "Butcher of Baghdad."
