Election officials call Brunner's report biased
Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner found some left-wing activists academics to issue an expensive taxpayer-funded "study" criticizing Ohio's election system. Their report focuses on the security of three electronic voting machines used in Ohio.
If you read the entire report, you'll find a section outlining the opinion of three board of elections members (two Dems and a Republican) who were asked to review the study's findings. Their conclusions completely undercut the Secretary of State's opinion.
Regarding the overall "academic" report (Page 45):
- "...the BOE officials posited that the report is generally based on pure supposition and bias."
- "The BOE officials stated that the information in the Executive Summary, Overview and Threat Model was based on a variety of data intertwined with personal experience, finding a large amount of information was unsubstantiated and biased and that the report supported the biases of the authors in order to substantiate their claims."
- "One BOE official expressed concern that the Academic reviewers appeared not to trust that election officials would make every effort to conduct a fair and honest election."
Regarding the report on ES&S voting machines (Page 45):
- "The BOE officials discovered some discrepancies in the use of footnotes. Additionally, the BOE officials’ most notable concern about the report was that solutions to these security issues were not presented."
- "The BOE officials described the language in the report as 'over-hyped.'"
Regarding the report on Premier voting machines (Pages 45-46):
- "The BOE officials concluded that these sections lacked sufficient evidence relating to real-life situations in which an attacker could circumvent the security of the voting system."
- "...there were several inconsistencies within the report, as well as mechanical errors."
- "Generally speaking, the BOE officials found that the report supports a certain political spectrum that believes that all electronic voting equipment is unsafe and evil."
Regarding the report on Hart voting machines (Page 46):
- "There were some claims that BOE officials believed to be outside the scope of real-world applications, and there were instances where the BOE officials found that the data contradicted the researchers’ claims. The BOE officials suggested that some logical conclusions were not presented as solutions."
- "...the BOE officials found that some of the conclusions required leaps in logic that could not be related to real-world situations. There were questions of practicality and poor reasoning within the
report."
Keep in mind, these are the views of a bipartisan panel of elections officials who actually get paid to administer elections (and the panel had a Democrat majority).
Obviously, Jennifer Brunner cooked up this report to appease the fringe conspiracy groups who still think - despite dozens of investigations - that Ohio's 2004 presidential election was stolen.
The only thing stolen was $1.6 million of our tax dollars used to fund this colossal waste of paper.
